Indicator is a substance used to show the presence of a chemical substance or ion by its colour. Acid-base indicators are compounds, such as phenolphtaleine and methyl orange, which change colour reversibly, depending on whether the solution is acidic or basic. Oxidation-reduction indicators are substances that show a reversible colour change between oxidised and reduced forms.
Substitution (substitution reaction) is a reaction in which an atom or fragment within a molecule is replaced with another atom or a fragment.

Inert electrode is an electrode that serves only as a source or sink for electrons without playing a chemical role in the electrode reaction. Precious metals, mercury, and carbon are typically used as inert electrodes. The inert nature of the electrode can sometimes be questioned. While the electrode may not take part in the reaction as a reactant or product, it still can act as an electrocatalyst.

Ionisation is the process of producing ions. Certain molecules ionise in a solution; for example, acids ionise when dissolved in water.
Electron transfer also causes ionisation in certain reactions, for example sodium and chlorine react by transfer of a valence electron from the sodium atom to the chlorine atom to form the ions that constitute a sodium chloride crystal.
Ketals are organic compounds formed by addition of an alcohol to a ketone. If one molecule of ketone (RR’CO) reacts with one molecule of alcohol (R"OH) then a hemiketal is formed. The rings of ketose sugars are hemiketals. Further reaction produces a full ketal (RR’C(OR")2). This term, once abandoned, has been reinstated as a subclass of acetals.
Lanthanum was discovered by Carl Gustaf Mosander (Sweden) in 1839. The origin of the name comes from the Greek word lanthanein meaning to lie hidden. It is soft, silvery-white, malleable, ductile metal. Readily tarnishes in air. Reaction with water releases hydrogen gas. Metal ignites and burns readily. Reacts with oxidants. Lanthanum is found with rare earths in monazite and bastnasite. Monazite sand typical contains 25 % lanthanum. It is used in the electrodes of high-intensity, carbon-arc lights. Because it gives glass refractive properties, it is used in expensive camera lenses.
Theoretical yield is the maximum quantity of a product that could be formed in a chemical reaction if all the limiting reactants reacted to form products (distinguished from actual yield).
