Relative humidity is the ratio of the partial pressure of water vapour in air to the saturation vapour pressure of water at the same temperature, expressed as a percentage.

Humidity is a general term used to describe the amount of water vapor found in the atmosphere.

Relative atomic mass (A_r) is the ratio of the average mass per atom of the naturally occurring form of an element to 1/12 of the mass of nuclide ¹²C. The term atomic weight is synonymous with the relative atomic mass.

Relative mistake is a relation between absolute mistake (O-μ) and the real value (μ). It is expressed in percentage (%).

Relative density (d) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of some reference substance. For liquids or solids it is the ratio of the density (usually at 20 °C) to the density of water at 4 °C. Since one must specify the temperature of both the sample and the water to have a precisely defined quantity, the use of this term is now discouraged. This quantity was formerly called specific gravity.

Relative molecular mass (M_r) is the ratio of the average mass per molecule or specified entity of a substance to 1/12 of the mass of nuclide ¹²C. Also called molecular weight. It is equal to the sum of the relative atomic masses of all the atoms that comprise a molecule. For example

M_r(H₂SO₄) = 2·A_r(H) + A_r(S) + 4·A_r(O)

= 2·1.0079 + 32.066 + 4·15.999

= 2.0158 + 32.066 + 63.996

= 98.078

Absorption coefficient (a) is the relative decrease in the intensity of a collimated beam of electromagnetic radiation, as a result of absorption by a medium, during traversal of an infinitesimal layer of the medium, divided by the length traversed.

Activity (a) is a thermodynamic function used in place of concentration in equilibrium constants for reactions involving nonideal gases and solutions. For the species i activity is defined as

where a_i is the activity of the species i, c_i is its molar concentration, and f_i is a dimensionless quantity called the activity coefficient.

Ball mill is a grinder for reducing hard materials to powder. The grinding is carried out by the pounding and rolling of a charge of steel or ceramic balls carried within the cylinder. The cylinder rotates at a relatively slow speed, allowing the balls to cascade through the mill base, thus grinding or dispersing the materials.

Type of ball mills, centrifugal and planetary mills, are devices used to rapidly grind materials to colloidal fineness (approximately 1 μm and below) by developing high grinding energy via centrifugal and/or planetary action.
