Binary solution is a mixture of two liquids that are completely miscible one with another. The boiling point of binary solution depends upon the solution composition and there can be three cases:
1. the boiling points of solutions of all compositions lie between the boiling points of clean liquids
2. the boiling points of solutions of any composition lie above the boiling points of clean liquids
3. the boiling points of solutions of some compositions lie below the boiling points of clean liquids
Superoxides are binary compounds containing oxygen in the -½ oxidation state. Sodium superoxide (NaO2) can be prepared with high oxygen pressures, whereas the superoxides of rubidium, potassium, and cesium can be prepared directly by combustion in air. These compounds are yellow to orange paramagnetic solids. Superoxide ion, O2-, has an unpaired electron, is not particularly stable, and spontaneously decomposes into peroxide over time.
They are strong oxidising agents that vigorously hydrolyze (react with water) to produce superoxide and oxygen gas.
Water (H2O) (dihydrogen oxide) is a binary compound that occurs at room temperature as a clear colorless odorless tasteless liquid; freezes into ice below 0 °C and boils above 100 °C. Water is a chemical compound which is essential for living organisms and it is widely used as a solvent.
