Rayleigh scattering is the scattering of light by particles which are much smaller than the wavelength of light.

Raman effect is a type of scattering of electromagnetic radiation in which light suffers a change in frequency and a change in phase as it passes through a material medium. Named according to the Indian physicist C. V. Raman (1889-1970). The intensity of Raman scattering is about one-thousandth of that in Rayleigh scattering in liquids.
Diffraction is the ability of a wave to bend around the edges of obstacles or holes. The effect is most noticeable when the obstacle or hole is comparable to the size of the wavelength
If a system is taken from one state to another but cannot be brought back to the same initial state, then the process is called irreversible. Some examples are free expansion of a gas; dissipation of energy due to friction, or the mixing of two gases or liquids etc.
