For a mixture of substances, the chemical potential of constituent B (μB) is defined as the partial derivative of the Gibbs energy G with respect to the amount (number of moles) of B, with temperature, pressure, and amounts of all other constituents held constant.
Also called partial molar Gibbs energy. Components are in equilibrium if their chemical potentials are equal.
Donnan potential is the electrical potential difference between two solutions separated by an ion-exchange membrane in the absence of any current flowing through the membrane
Close packing is the packing of spheres so as to occupy the minimum amount of space. The name close packed refers to the packing efficiency of 74.05 %. There are two types of close packing: hexagonal and cubic. One layer, with atoms centered on sites labeled a. Two layers, with the atoms of the second layer centered on sites labeled b. The third layer can be placed on the sites labeled c (giving cubic close-packing) or over those marked a (giving hexagonal close-packing).
Electrochemical potential is a measure of a metal to form ions in a liquid.
Electron pair is two electrons within one orbital with opposite spins responsible for a chemical bond.
Elementary particle is one of fundamental particles of which matter is composed, such as the electron, proton or neutron.
Conditional or formal electrode potential (E°’) is equal to electrode potential (E) when overall concentrations of oxidised and reduced form in all its forms in a solution are equal to one. Conditional electrode potential includes all effects made by reactions that do not take part in the electron exchange, but lead to change of ion power, changes of pH, hydrolysis, complexing, precipitating, etc.
At 298 K (25 °C) and by converting natural (Napierian) logarithms into decimal (common, or Briggian) logarithms, Nernst’s equation for electrode potential can be written as follows:
From Environment protection law of the Republic of Croatia: By protection of the environment, the following is ensured: complete preservation of environment quality, natural community preservation, rational usage of natural resources and energy in the most favourable way concerning the environment as a basic condition of healthy and sustainable development.
Contact procedure is an industrial procedure used for the production of sulphuric acid, where a dry and clean sulphur dioxide and air go over a catalyst made of vanadium pentoxide at 450 °C by which sulphur trioxide is gained, then we add concentrated sulphuric acid by which we obtain smoking sulphuric acid which is now diluted to sulphuric acid.
Eequivalence point is the point in a titration when enough titrant has been added to react completely with the analyte.
