Lysine is an electrically charged amino acids with basic side chains. Lysine is a base, as are arginine and histidine. The amino group is highly reactive and often participates in reactions at the active centers of enzymes. Lysine plays an important role in coordinating negatively charged ligands. It is an essential amino acid, which means that humans cannot synthesize it, so it must be ingested.
Magnetic permeability (μ), also called permeability, is a constant of proportionality that exists between magnetic induction and magnetic field intensity. This constant is equal to approximately μo = 1.257×10-6 H/m in a vacuum.
Magnetic permeability is often expressed in relative, rather than in absolute, terms. If μ represents the permeability of the substance in question, then the relative permeability, μr, is given by:
Mass concentration (γ) is equal to mass (mA) of soluted substance and volume (V) of the solution proportion. SI unit for mass concentration is kg m-3, but in laboratory practice g dm-3, which has the same number value, is often used.
Mass fraction (wA) is the ratio of the mass of substance A to the total mass of a mixture.
Microanalysis is a sum of analytical procedures used for researching of very small quantities of matter (around 1 mg).
Mineral water is a groundwater that rises to the surface through a natural opening in the earth or rock and contains a relatively high concentration of mineral ions and trace of elements which can be radioactive or thermal.
Melting point is the temperature at which a solid becomes a liquid at normal atmospheric pressure.
A more specific definition of melting point (or freezing point) is the temperature at which the solid and liquid phases of a substance are in equilibrium at a specified pressure (normally taken to be atmospheric unless stated otherwise). A pure substance under standard condition of pressure has a single reproducible melting point. The terms melting point and freezing point are often used interchangeably, depending on whether the substance is being heated or cooled.
Microscope is an instrument that produces enlarged images of small objects. The optical microscopes (light microscope) use visible light and a system of lenses to magnify images. Typical magnification of a light microscope is up to 1500× ("1500 times")with a theoretical resolution limit of around 200 nm. Instead of using light, electron microscopes transmit a beam of electrons through, or onto the surface of, a specimen. An electron beam has a much shorter wavelength than does light, and can reveal structures as small as 2 nm.
Mineralization is a process in which organic compounds (e.g. dead plant or animal material) are converted to inorganic compounds (e.g. nitrate, carbon dioxide).
