Transmutation is the conversion of one element into another by a process taking place in the nucleus.
Transuranium elements are elements with an atomic number higher than 92 (uranium’s atomic number). Transuranium elements are unstable and occur in extremely low concentrations in nature. Most are made artificially.
Unified atomic mass unit (u or mu) is a unit of mass used in atomic, molecular, and nuclear science, defined as the mass of one atom of 12C divided by 12. Its approximate value is
Joule-Thomson coefficient (μ) is a parameter which describes the temperature change when a gas expands adiabatically through a nozzle from a high pressure to a low pressure region. It is defined by
where H is enthalpy.
Kelvin (K) is the SI base unit of thermodynamic temperature.
The kelvin, unit of thermodynamic temperature, is the fraction 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water. The unit was named after the British scientist Sir. W. Thompson, Lord Kelvin (1824-1907).Kjeldahl flask is a round bottom flask with a long wide neck that is used in the determination of nitrogen by Kjeldahl’s method. The method was developed by the Danish chemist Johan Kjeldahl (1849-1900).
Kjeldahl’s method is an analytical method for determination of nitrogen in certain organic compounds. The method was developed by the Danish chemist Johan Kjeldahl (1849-1900).
It involves addition of a small amount of anhydrous potassium sulphate to the test compound, followed by heating the mixture with concentrated sulphuric acid, often with a catalyst such as copper sulphate. As a result ammonia is formed. After alkalyzing the mixture with sodium hydroxyde, the ammonia is separated by distillation, collected in standard acid, and the nitrogen determined by back-titration.
Universal gas constant R has the value of 8.314 472(15) J K-1 mol-1. It corresponds to the volume work performed by one mole of gas heated by 1 K at standard pressure.
Urethane is actually a misnomer as applied to polyurethane foam. It is a colorless, crystalline substance used primarily in medicines, pesticides, and fungicides. Urethane is not used in the production of urethane polymers or foams. The urethanes of the plastics industry are so named because the repeating units of their structures resemble the chemical urethane.
