absorption → apsorpcija

Absorption is a phenomenon that occurs when matter crosses from one phase to another passing through the border surface and in the other phase more or less monotonously distributes itself in a concentration higher than the one within the first phase.

acetylene → acetilen

Acetylene (ethyne) is a colourless unstable gas, C₂H₂, with a characteristic sweet odour. It is lighter than air, easily soluble in acetone (propanone) and it is explosive under high pressure.

activator → aktivator

Activator is a substance that increases the activity of a catalyst; for example, a substance that - by binding to an allosteric site on an enzyme - enables the active site of the enzyme to bind to the substrate.

Adhesion is attraction between different substances on either side of a phase boundary. Adhesive is a substance used for joining surfaces together.

Allomerism is the appearance of substances with different chemical composition but the same crystalline form.

amethyst → ametist

Amethyst is the purple variant of the mineral quartz. The colour is due to impurities, especially iron oxide. It is used as a gemstone.
