Reverse reaction is a reaction in backward directions, reaction (in the reversible reaction) in which original reactants emerge again from a products. It goes from right to left.
Exothermic reactions are those in which heat is released and there is a corresponding decrease in temperature (ΔH° < 0).
If the reaction is exothermic in one direction, in the opposite direction the reaction is endothermic.
Stereospecific reactions are reactions that proceed predominantly to a single stereoisomeric product out. All metabolic conversions involving chiral molecules are stereospecific.
Terminal reaction is a reaction that ends a cycle or chain of other chemical reactions.
Photochemical reactions are those reactions which are conducted under the influence of light that is under the influence of ultraviolet, visible and infrared part of the light spectrum. Some systems can be influenced only by radiation that is absorbed by that system. Photochemical reactions are for example photosynthesis, creation of photography, generation of phosgene, creation of hydrochloride etc.
Redox reaction is an oxidation-reduction reaction is a reaction in which one or more electrons are transferred. When an atom, ion, or molecule loses one or more electrons, it is oxidised. When an atom, ion, or molecule gains one or more electrons, it is reduced.
Accelerator is a device (machine) used for acceleration of charged particles (protons, deuterons, α-particles). Particles are accelerated under the influence of an electric field and with the help of a magnetic field are kept inside a certain space. When the particles reach enough acceleration (that is sufficient energy), they are directed on a target we wish to bomb. Best known types cyclotron, synchrotron, betatron.
Accelerator is a substance that increases the rate of chemical reaction, i.e. a catalyst.
Chemical balance is a degree of reversible reaction in a closed system, when the forward and backward reaction happen at same rates and their effects annul each other, while the concentration of reactants and products stays the same.
Chemical kinetics is an area of chemistry that studies rates and mechanisms of chemical reactions.
In 1889, Svante Arrhenius explained the variation of rate constants with temperature for several elementary reactions using the relationship
where the rate constant k is the total frequency of collisions between reaction molecules A times the fraction of collisions exp(-Ea/RT) that have an energy that exceeds a threshold activation energy Ea at a temperature of T (in kelvin). R is the universal gas constant.
