salt water    →   slana voda

Salt water is the water of the sea and the ocean. This water contains a relatively high percentage of dissolved salt (about 35 g of salt per 1 000 g of sea water.). About 90 % of that salt would be sodium chloride, or ordinary table salt.

The salinity of ocean water varies. It is affected by such factors as melting of ice, inflow of river water, evaporation, rain, etc.

Water (H₂O) (dihydrogen oxide) is a binary compound that occurs at room temperature as a clear colorless odorless tasteless liquid; freezes into ice below 0 °C and boils above 100 °C. Water is a chemical compound which is essential for living organisms and it is widely used as a solvent.

Minerals of the tetragonal crystal system are referred to three mutually perpendicular axes. The two horizontal axes are of equal length, while the vertical axis is of different length and may be either shorter or longer than the other two.

Aqueous solutions are those solutions where water is the solvent. An aqueous solution found in an equation describing a chemical reaction is denoted by the state symbol, (aq).

Conductivity is a measure of the ability of a material to conduct electric current.

Ionic conductor is a material that conducts electricity with ions as charge carriers.

Lattice constants are parameters specifying the dimensions of a unit cell in a crystal lattice, specifically the lengths of the cell edges and the angles between them.

Lattice energy is the energy per ion pair required to separate completely the ions in a crystal lattice at a temperature of absolute zero.

The proportions of the major constituents of ocean water are almost constant throughout the world. Salinity (total salt content) and the concentrations of individual chemical constituents in sea wateris given the units psu (practical salinity units). For most purposes one can assume that the new unit, psu, and the older unit, ‰, are synonymous.
